KAIROS - Mission Training

What is God's vision for mission? What does it mean to be a world Christian? How can we be involved in evangelizing unreached people groups?  What is the task remaining?

The CTSM staff team were pleased to welcome Arjan Narin Srithandon and 3 pastors from Bangkok to teach us the Kairos course, 23rd-27th February 2009.
The word ‘kairos’ speaks of a special season or time of opportunity. “Now is the day of salvation”, in these last days we desire to speed our Lord’s return by proclaiming Christ crucified, and God’s victory over sin, death and Satan, to all people.
The week took us through the biblical basis for mission, a brief history of the church, mission strategy, cross-cultural considerations and teamwork.
We also participated in an interactive cross-cultural communication simulation and a service of worship.
Each morning we prayed for a different religious bloc and each afternoon we had small group discussions to help ground and apply what we were learning.
As we have been blessed may we bless others to be a blessing to the world.
We long for Thai students to be the next generation of pioneer missionaries, building God’s kingdom, sent out and supported by the Thai local church.

GO! 2009

Over the long term break, Thai Christian Students have the opportunity to serve God in a mission team. Our aim is for students to see God at work in building his kingdom through different people in different places, to try out and practise evangelistic skills and to commit themselves more to world mission. We ask for God's provision and protection as we prepare, travel, live and work together, relating well with those to whom we go too. Please pray with us and for us, that we will walk in the ways of God's word and that many lives will changed by our witness.

GO! Taak will help a Karen church run a children's camp in their village, 21-25 April. Lots of energy needed for fun games, bible stories and songs. Please pray for clear cross-cultural communication and gospel understanding.

GO! ChaChoengSao will work alongside Bethel Church to reach out to children, families and factory workers through activities and open air presentations in nights markets, 27 April - 2 May. We also hope to encourage new believers to learn more of their role in world evangelisation. Please pray for confidence in Christ as we hold out the word of life and speak the truth in love.

GO! Laos will pray for and visit local believers in different churches in the Isaan, helping them to evangelise their neighours, 21 Apil - 3 May. Please pray for a vibrant faithfulness, being unashamed of Jesus and his word and trusting God in everything.

Testimonies From Camp!!!

Praise God the camp went well. God used the activities, Bible studies, skits, and talks to disciple christian students and draw non-christian students closer to himself. Here are a few of the many testimonies of students from the camp.

Riam: (First year university student in Phitsanulok): "Even though I was born into a Christian family my relationship with God isn't that good. After returning from camp I knew that God's desire is that we have a good relationship with him. Now I am getting to know God better and growing in my relationship with Him. Thanks be to God for this camp".

Weew: (Fourth year university student in Phitsanulok): "I have lead Bible studies several times in our student cell group and know that this can be difficult and challenging but when I went to camp I saw the staff leading Bible study groups which included both Christians and those who are new to studying the Bible. I saw that this was even more difficult because you have to find the right words to help those who haven't studied the Bible before understand it easily. The blessing that I received from this camp was that I saw God working through the staff leading the Bible studies and I learnt how to teach the Bible to those who aren't Christians. I will be able to use these methods myself in the future".

Bom: a new-comer to the Nakhon Sawan youth house but a tennis partner of one of the Christian students here, he came along to camp and was intrigued to read of the Bible's message. Since then he has come every day to join in an evangelistic bible study looking at who Jesus is, a church prayer meeting and music practice, and a teaching session on understanding God's will. We pray that as Bom learns more within the community of believers that he will turn in repentace and faith to know Jesus as his Lord and Saviour.

Pang: Pang (age 15) has been coming to the Lopburi Youth House regularly for 2 months now and has heard several testimonies, been to church several times, sat in on the weekly Bible Studies, and joined us all in singing worship songs. She was drawn to the Youth House because she could tell people here cared about her because we looked in her eyes when she talked. She told us of how alone she felt at home and school, and how her parents didn't seem to care about her. Slowly she has started see Christ's unconditional love for her. At the camp, she was able to clearly study the gospel message of our sin and separation from God, and Jesus' love for us and desire to have relationship with us. Pang chose to make Jesus her Saviour and to follow him. Since then, she has taken her Bible to school everyday and been telling her friends why she has it. She even watched the entire Gospel of John video and read along in her Bible. Please keep her in your prayers that she will grow into spiritual maturity.

Nam: (High school student in Lopburi) Nam, age 17, has been a Christian for 2 years now, and has obvious leadership and fruit of Christ's work in her life. Through the witness of her life and the change in her life since becoming a christian, her mother is also a christian now. Nam was a Bible Study leader for the first time at the camp. She said it was a great experience and very challenging. She was so excited to be able to serve God in this way. Her group had 1 other Christian and 3 non-Christians. She said they asked many tough questions, but she was still glad to be their leader. Some students even thought she was staff because of her maturity.

Kareon: Kareon, a missionary who volunteered at the camp, said, "I loved the atmosphere at the camp, with people from many countries (USA, England, Taiwan, China, Netherlands, Singapore, Thailand etc.) and the wide variety of activities. The blessing I got is to have many chances to sit and talk with many Christian and Non-Christian students about faith".

THE OLYMPICS Evangelistic CAMP

On August 15-17 we will have a big evangelistic student camp in Nakhon Sawan with a theme of the Olympics. The official name is Huang A Yai, which is a sort of play on words for big circle, Take Care, and it's hard to explain but students like the name.
We hope to have around 120 high school and college students come to the camp for around $8/person. We'll have several competitions, opening and closing ceremonies, and we'll use the colors of the Olympics to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. We will have 5 Bible Studies, each on one color of the 5 circles.
The rings of the Olympics are Green, Blue, Black, Red, and Yellow.
Green represents God is the creator of everything.
Blue represents God reigns over everything, He is the Ruler of the world.
Black represents man's sin and rebellion from God.
Red represents God's love for us, shown by sending His son Jesus, who died on the cross so that our sins may be washed clean. Red also represents Jesus blood, shed as a sacrifice once for all of us.
Yellow represents our new life as children of the King, and the promise of eternal life in heaven with streets of gold.
Other activities will be a campfire with music and performances by students, a BBQ dinner, singing worship songs together, and time in workshops. In the workshops, students get to choose from several different activities including: sports, making crafts, learning english, etc.
Please keep this in your prayers over the next 2 weeks.
1. The staff, to complete all of our preparations and to still have energy to love the students at camp. That we will have wisdom in all the last second preparations. That we will show God's love through our lives and our words.
2. The Christian students, to grow closer with God and have a bigger understanding of His love for us. Also, to be encouraged/set on fire by the big community of christian students. Pray for them to be bold in sharing their faith with non-christian students at the camp. Also pray for the student leaders who will lead the small group Bible Studies.
3. The Non-Christian students, that their hearts will open up to the Gospel and that they will let go of the things that hold them back from following Jesus. There are several students from each Youth House that have heard the gospel and have interest, but pray that God will use this time to convict them of their need for Jesus Christ to be their personal Savior.

Youth House on the Road II

Saturday, July 12 was a big day for all three Youth Houses because of Youth House on the Road. Youth House on the Road is a chance for all the staff and students to come together, worship and study our creator, and have a big celebration. This year it was held at the NU Youth House in Phitsanulok.
The road trip started in Lopburi as 26 students and staff loaded up a rented tour bus at 7:30am. At about 9am we picked up another 30+ students and staff at the Nakhon Sawan Youth House and then drove on to Phitsanulok. The bus was filled with noise of students singing songs, playing games, and just talking away getting to know each other until we arrived at the NU Youth House.

At the NU Youth House we were immediately greeted with snacks and then we played a few games that included attacking and popping each other’s balloons. We sang a few worship songs and then broke into 15 small groups for a short Bible Study of Psalm 139. Students led each group in this study about how awesome our God is. He knows everything about us, our thoughts, our actions, our past, our future, and there is no place we can hide from him.

Afterwards we ate lunch, had a time of prayer, and then broke into groups of 7-8 people and played “Walk Rally” type game. The game was very fun as we had to follow instructions that took us all over campus, singing the Thai National Anthem, dressing up as an elephant, taking pictures with campus guards, solving trivia questions, and making balloon models of all the staff.

We then ate a delicious dinner, played games, and talked. Everyone loaded up the bus around 5:30 to return home. It was a great time for all the students to get to know each other and the staff and to learn more about God our creator and Savior. For the Christian students it was a good encouragement to see all these other Christian students and to see they are not alone. For many non-christian students, it was their first Bible study and many opporturtinities were opened to hear testimonies and to observe Christians in action.
Thanks to the NU Youth house staff and student leaders for all their work preparing for the event, but mostly, we praise God for safe and fun travels, for providing our finances for the event, for blessing all the activities, and for working in the hearts and minds of students in Central Thailand.

Staff and Student Training Weeks

From May 18-May 24 was the training week for all of the staff with the Central Thailand Student Ministry. It was a good time of fellowship, studying about the Glory of God, and discussing the vision, mission and goals for the Central Thailand Student Ministry.

Vision
By God’s grace to see students of CT receiving salvation, growing as disciples, being faithful witnesses and living holy lives according to the Word of God.

Mission
To glorify God by Living, Proclaiming and Teaching the Word of God so that Thai students follow Christ in every area of life.

Goals
1. Students and outsiders acknowledge the Youth House is a place of good and appropriate activities (fun and trustworthy)
2. Students are passionately committed to regular, creative, widespread Biblical evangelism as God calls them (Acts 1:8)
3. Students passionate about studying and applying Scripture so that their lives glorify God in every area
4. Students commit themselves to regular prayer
5. Students take every opportunity to use their gifts to humbly serve others both in their church and their YH.
6. To have ‘small groups’ on each campus able to witness and encourage one another to grow spiritually
7. More Thai team members who are able to use their skills for God’s glory in CTSM
8. Thai churches and Christian organizations know and support CTSM/T2S

This week was also the start of the Train To Serve (T2S) program for Noon, Zo, Tam, and Jonathan and Ashley. Each student will study 10 modules each term for the next 2 years while they are serving at one of the Youth Houses. The modules are designed to encourage personal spiritual growth, experience leading and serving Christian students, and practice reaching out to Non-Christian students.

Student Training Week
From May 26-30 students from Phitsanulok and Nakhon Sawan joined the staff for a week of training and planning. We had plenty of time for worship, Bible studies, Quiet Time, and time together to plan out a schedule of events for this term. Praise God that there are several students willing to give of themselves to help share the Gospel on their campuses! There is a lot of talent in these student leaders and we are excited to see what God will do in them and through them this year!!!

Christmas Camp

Those of you who have been following our activities will know that we like having camps! Our last camp was back in August with the theme of 'Look' to find out who Jesus is. Well, we will shortly be having another camp so that students can find out more about what Christians celebrate at Christmas. Our theme this time is the Gift that we have received. It's better than any other gift you will ever receive. The camp is on 7th to 10th December. We're still praying that God will provide the money we need to run the camp and that plenty of students will be free to come. It would be good to see students who came on the last camp returning and also bringing other friends. Please join us in praying for all the practical arrangements to go smoothly and that the students will appreciate the Gift that God has given us.
